Environmental Technologies

Expertise and relevant sectors

We target environmental challenges in a number of sectors:

  • Manufacturing industry, especially SMEs/SMIs: clean production, energy efficiency, sustainability analysis
  • Construction: environmentally friendly building materials, energy efficiency, solar heating and cooling systems
  • Energy: renewable energy, smart grid systems
  • Water: innovative techniques and processes for wastewater treatment, fate and environmental behaviour of pollutants, distributed processing and source control

Our competences

Our expertise in environmental technologies is focused around two areas developed by our research department, the Resource Centre for Environmental Technologies:

Evaluation and management of environmental impacts and risks:

  • Life Cycle assessment methodology (LCA)
  • Environmental modelling techniques (integrated modelling, meta-models, optimisation algorithms, geospatial tools)

Environmental systems engineering, including energy systems and urban and industrial water cycles

  • Process simulation modelling
  • Instrumentation
  • Controle and automation
  • Prototyping
